What are the major frustrations of this job?
There's a tremendous amount of misinformation in the public arena, both from the media (with paranormal shows using experts who are nothing of the kind) and skeptics (who if you talk to them have seldom taken the time to read, let alone understand, the experimental research), which means we have to spend a lot of time correcting people's mistaken beliefs before we can even get to new ideas. As it is, parapsychologists tend to get attacked (when we aren't ignored) by both psi-believers who feel we are too skeptical and psi-disbelievers (AKA "skeptics") who feel we're credulous fools. Frequently we're ridiculed, ignored, or dismissed as irrelevant, which is a shame because we really do have some solid answers from well-designed, controlled experimental research.
